Delegation from Sodh Block Meets CEC Kargil, Seeks Support for Creation of Separate Sub-Division.
Kargil, August 27, 2026: A delegation comprising representatives, Nambardars, members of Village Committees and prominent residents of Sodh Block today called on Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon, and submitted a detailed representation seeking the creation of Sodh Block as a separate Sub-Division.
The delegation highlighted the long-pending demand of the people of the area and apprised the CEC of the administrative and developmental challenges being faced by residents due to the vast geographical spread, difficult terrain, remoteness and limited connectivity of the region.
According to the representation, Sodh Block comprises approximately 10 Panchayats, around 30 Mohallas and several villages, with an estimated population of nearly 18,000 people. The delegation pointed out that several habitations are located in remote and far-flung areas, making access to administrative offices and essential government services difficult for the local population.
The delegation stated that the creation of a separate Sub-Division would bring administration closer to the people and facilitate better and more efficient delivery of essential services, particularly in the fields of revenue, education, healthcare, development and social welfare.
The delegation also requested the CEC to take up the matter with the competent authorities of the UT Administration of Ladakh and pursue the demand at the appropriate level. It sought a comprehensive feasibility assessment and administrative survey, taking into consideration population, geographical area, number of habitations, distance from existing administrative headquarters, road connectivity, difficult terrain and availability of infrastructure.
Emphasising the need for balanced regional development, the delegation said that the demand for a separate Sub-Division is aimed at ensuring equitable administrative representation, improving public service delivery and addressing the genuine developmental needs of people living in remote areas.
CEC Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured the members that their concerns, particularly the demand for creation of a separate Sub-Division, would be taken up with the higher authorities at the appropriate level. He assured the delegation of his support in pursuing the matter in the larger public interest.
The delegation expressed gratitude to the CEC for giving them a patient hearing and for assuring them of taking up their genuine demand with the concerned authorities. The members also conveyed their cooperation and support for initiatives aimed at the overall development and welfare of the people of Sodh Block.
