ADDC Leh Chairs District-Level TB Mukt Bharat Committee Meeting; Reviews TB Elimination Efforts in Leh.
Leh, August 29, 2026: A meeting of the District-Level TB Mukt Bharat Committee, Leh, was held today under the chairmanship of the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC), Leh, to review the implementation of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and strengthen coordinated efforts towards tuberculosis (TB) elimination in the district.
During the meeting, Yassir Ahamed, District Programme Coordinator (DPC), National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), Leh, made a detailed presentation on the status of TB elimination activities in the district. The presentation covered TB notifications, types of TB, drug-sensitive and drug-resistant TB cases, Nikshay Poshan Yojana, distribution of nutrition kits to TB patients, TB screening coverage among the target population, TB Preventive Treatment (TPT), TB-free Panchayats, calculation of indicative metrics and the district-wise status of TB cases.
As per the presentation, against the TB notification target of 134 cases for 2026, 105 cases have been notified in Leh district so far. The district recorded 97 drug-sensitive TB (DSTB) cases and eight drug-resistant TB (DRTB) cases during 2026. The DPC also informed that TB screening activities have already been conducted in different areas of Leh district.
The meeting also reviewed the follow-up actions related to the high-level inter-ministerial meeting on TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan held on July 7, 2026, chaired by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda in New Delhi. The presentation covered the agenda and guidance emerging from the meeting, directions issued to the Chief Secretaries/Principal Secretaries/Secretaries (Health) of States/UTs, action points from the Hon’ble Health Minister’s meeting, status of action taken, State/UT-wise TB incidence and mortality, composition and role of the District-Level TB Mukt Bharat Committee, and the roles and responsibilities of NSS, MY Bharat volunteers, NCC cadets and other stakeholders in the campaign.
The ADDC Leh enquired about the familiarisation of committee members with their respective roles and responsibilities and stressed the need for effective coordination among all concerned departments.
The ADDC directed the concerned officials to send a letter to the Higher Education Department for mobilisation and participation of NSS volunteers in TB Mukt Bharat activities. He further emphasised that training programmes for volunteers should be planned and prepared well in advance to ensure their effective participation in the campaign. He also directed that the status of the campaign activities be submitted after their completion for review.
To ensure better understanding and coordinated implementation at the grassroots level, the ADDC directed that a copy of the presentation be shared with block-level offices. He also suggested preparing a calendar for regular review of the progress of TB Mukt Bharat activities.
The ADDC further suggested issuing advance letters to volunteers to encourage greater participation and effective contribution during the campaign and recommended providing certificates to participating volunteers in recognition of their efforts.
Emphasising the importance of focused screening, the ADDC raised the need for mapping vulnerable villages for TB screening and directed the concerned departments to prepare a coordinated schedule for TB screening across departments and different areas of the district.
The meeting concluded with directions for stronger inter-departmental coordination, systematic monitoring and enhanced community participation to accelerate the district’s efforts towards achieving the objectives of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and a TB-free Leh district
