EJM College Leh Concludes Two-Day National Conference on Inclusive Future and Collective Action.
LEH, SEPTEMBER 11, 2026: The Department of Social Work, Eliezer Joldan Memorial (EJM) College, Leh, concluded a two-day National Conference on the theme “Towards Inclusive Future: Dialogue and Collective Action” today. The conference was held from September 10–11, 2026, bringing together administrators, academicians, scholars, social work practitioners and delegates from across the country.
The conference was funded under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) and supported by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), EJM College, Leh. It was organised in association with the Professional Social Workers Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSWAJK), India Network of Professional Social Workers Associations (INPSWA), and Human Welfare Volunteer Organisation (HWVO). Jammu & Kashmir Bank, Leh, and Punjab National Bank, Leh, supported the event as sponsors.
The valedictory function was attended by Vice-Chancellor, Sindhu Central University, Prof. Dr. Rajeev Ratan Sharma, and Administrative Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT Ladakh, Bhanu Prabha, IAS, as Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, respectively. Other dignitaries included Prof. Sanjay Roy, Department of Social Work, University of Delhi, as Special Guest; Dr. Sameena Iqbal, State Programme Director, PM-USHA; and Prof. Tsewang Mutup, Director, College Development Council (DCDC).
The dignitaries were traditionally welcomed with ceremonial Khatas by Principal, EJM College, Leh, Prof. Stanzin Yangdol. The formal proceedings commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
In her welcome address, Principal Prof. Stanzin Yangdol highlighted the significance of the conference, stating that the gathering was aimed not merely at participation but at generating meaningful dialogue and actionable knowledge that delegates could carry forward to their respective institutions and communities.
Head of the Department of Social Work and Organising Secretary, Dr. Yangchan Dolma, presented a detailed report on the conference. She highlighted the objectives of organising the national-level academic dialogue in Ladakh and noted the participation of delegates from universities and institutions across different parts of the country. She also outlined the technical sessions, symposia and key outcomes of the two-day deliberations.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sanjay Roy emphasised the need for the social work profession to continuously evolve in response to changing socio-economic conditions and contemporary challenges.
Dr. Sameena Iqbal, State Programme Director, PM-USHA, reiterated the commitment to providing administrative and financial support for meaningful academic initiatives and appreciated the conference as an important platform for knowledge exchange and collective learning.
Bhanu Prabha, IAS, Administrative Secretary, Higher Education Department, UT Ladakh, appreciated the efforts of the Department of Social Work, EJM College, in successfully organising the conference. She emphasised the importance of collective action in preserving Ladakh’s natural resources and highlighted the strength of community resilience in addressing emerging challenges.
The valedictory session also featured feedback from participating delegates, who shared their experiences and key learnings from the conference.
As part of the concluding ceremony, the dignitaries and participants associated with the conference were felicitated. Prof. Tsewang Mutup felicitated Chief Guest Bhanu Prabha, IAS, while Prof. Stanzin Yangdol presented a token of honour to the Guest of Honour. Dr. Sameena Iqbal presented a memento to Special Guest Prof. Sanjay Roy. Dr. Yangchan Dolma presented tokens of appreciation to the event sponsors and PSWAJK, besides felicitating the Zonal Officers of Jammu & Kashmir and UT Ladakh NCC.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Dr. Yangchan Dolma expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, collaborators, delegates and members of the organising committees for their contributions to the successful conduct of the conference. She particularly acknowledged the efforts of Assistant Professor Jaspreet Singh and Dr. Tanushree Malakar for their dedicated support in making the event possible.
The two-day conference concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony for paper presenters, session chairs and participants.
