Leh, 28 September 2026:
As part of the Ladakh Festival 2026, the short film Dutpa (The Knot) was screened at Rang Thang, Leh, followed by an interaction with the cast and filmmakers.
Directed by Tsering Angdu Lhonpo and Tashi Dawa, the film features Deachen Yangdol in the lead role. The screening at the Ladakh Festival marked the film’s first public release at a modest-scale screening in Ladakh.
Dutpa (The Knot) explores the realities of urban migration from rural areas and the lives of elderly people left behind. Through a nuanced narrative, the film portrays loneliness, isolation and the emotional trauma of separation, gradually taking a darker turn as the consequences of being left behind unfold.
The film has received recognition at several national and international platforms. At the Zee Short Film Contest 2026, Mumbai, it won Best Film in the Other Language Category and reached the Grand Finale from nearly 2,000 entries across India. It was also selected for the International Competition Section of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2026 and received an Honourable Mention at the Greece International Film Festival 2026.
Mementos were presented by Deputy Director Tourism, UT Ladakh, Shri Mohd Taqi, JKAS, to Ms. Deachen Yangdol’s daughter, actor Mr. Nawang Chopal, and filmmakers Mr Tsering Angdu Lhonpo and Mr Tashi Dawa.
The screening provided an opportunity for audiences to engage with the filmmakers and actors and gain insights into the making and social themes explored through the film.
