    LG Mathur announces job reservation for national level sportspersons from Ladakh LSRC lifts the first Lt. Governor Ice Hockey Men’s trophy, 2021.

    Leh : Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre (LSRC) defeated ITBP 3-0 to lift the first Lieutenant-Governor Ice Hockey Men’s Cup 2021 at the Ice Hockey Rink, NDS Sports Complex, Leh today. The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, R K Mathur, was the chief guest for the closing ceremony.

    Advisor to LG Ladakh, Umang Narula commenced the final match played between LSRC and ITBP by throwing the pug. Earlier, Kharu eves defeated Domkhar 3-1 in a penalty shootout to emerge winners in the women’s final. The event, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) in collaboration with Ladakh Winter Sports Club, Leh, was sponsored by the Municipal Corporation of Leh under the Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge campaign.

    The Lt. Governor congratulated the winning team and other players for exhibiting sportsmanship spirit. He also appreciated the senior administrative officers and the event organisers for their endeavours in successfully conducting the event. The LG lauded the efforts and initiatives of MP Ladakh in promoting winter sports in Ladakh.

    Speaking on the occasion, the Lt. Governor announced job reservation for national-qualified sportspersons. He also expressed hope to see young players from Ladakh participating in the Olympics and international-level tournaments in the near future. He also assured steady progress in the development of international standard sports infrastructure and improvement in the quality of sports every year.

    The Lt. Governor apprised the people about the synthetic Astroturf football track which is at the completion stage, a multipurpose indoor hall at NDS Sports Complex, building of 41 ice-hockey rinks at sub-division and block-level, development of sports hostels in Leh and Kargil, and a gymnasium at the Indoor Stadium, Leh. He also informed that 347 Primary Schools, 368 Middle Schools, 80 High Schools and 36 Higher Secondary Schools with sports infrastructure such as ice hockey, archery and sports equipment would be created this year. The Lt. Governor also spoke about steps taken by the UT Administration to form Sports Councils and Associations in Ladakh.

    The Lt. Governor shared that Municipal Committee Leh (MCL) and Housing and Urban Development Department are participating in the Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge and endeavouring to put an end to manual scavenging. He also reiterated the participation of all citizens of Ladakh in the Challenge to make Ladakh clean and completely eliminate manual scavenging.

    MP Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, shared that the face of winter sports in Ladakh has seen a major facelift with the conduct of sports activities throughout the winter. He expressed hope to see Ladakh becoming a winter sports capital in the future.

    Earlier, Divisional Commissioner, Ladakh, Saugat Biwas, who was the chief guest for the women’s final match expressed his happiness over the participation of women’s teams from both the districts. He shared that UT Administration would provide support for the up-gradation and the promotion of sports with proper infrastructure.

    Secretary, Sports, Ravinder Kumar shared that Khelo India Ladakh Winter Games, CEC Cup and the first Lieutenant-Governor Ice Hockey Cup have given a major boost to winter sports and Ladakhi sportspersons.

    During the prize distribution ceremony, sanitation workers (safai karamchari) were felicitated under the Safaimitra Suraksha Challenge. An acrobatic dance performance and speed skating competition was also organised during the event.
