Kargil, October 19: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Ghulam Mohammad, today inaugurated a two-day Seva Setu Abhiyan Camp aimed at creating awareness about the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana at the Syed Mehdi Memorial Auditorium Hall, Kargil. The awareness camp is being held on October 19 and 20 October.
The inauguration was attended by Wajihat Mir, Superintending Engineer; Feroz Wani, Executive Engineer; Syed Mohammad, Assistant Engineer, EPD; Syed Mudashir, Assistant Engineer, EPD; and Abass, Manager, J&K Bank Main Branch, besides officials, representatives of solar vendors and members of the public.
During the camp, the dignitaries visited stalls established by different vendors and interacted with their representatives. The vendors provided detailed information regarding the benefits of rooftop solar systems, the application procedure, technical requirements and the complete process involved in installation and commissioning.
Participants were informed that the Central Government and UT Administration provide financial assistance under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. Against an indicative cost of ₹1,90,800, a subsidy of around ₹1,35,800 may be available, subject to applicable norms. Vendors also explained that inverter and battery provisions may vary depending on the vendor and package.
Vendors highlighted that rooftop solar systems are meant for electricity generation and reducing power bills, not as backup. After installation, beneficiaries become both consumers and producers of electricity, with 3–5 kW systems generating power that can be utilized as per applicable billing and net-metering provisions.
Vendors highlighted that non-installation of smart meters in some town areas is causing difficulties in rooftop solar installations. The issue was discussed with concerned officials for necessary resolution.
J&K Bank Main Branch Manager Abass also interacted with the participants and addressed their grievances and queries related to banking and financial assistance under the scheme.
