ADC Kargil Chairs Preparatory Meeting for Week-long World Environment Day Celebrations.
Kargil, May 29, 2025 – Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho today chaired a preparatory meeting in his office chamber with District Officers and stakeholders to finalize arrangements for the week-long celebration of World Environment Day scheduled from May 30 to June 5 across Kargil District.
The meeting was attended by Project Officer, Wages (ACD), Headquarter Assistant to DC, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee (MC), Kargil; Divisional Forest Officer; District Youth Services & Sports Officer; Accounts Officer to DC and representatives of the Departments of Education, Tourism, Wildlife as well as Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. Representatives of the Transport Union and Merchant Association were also present.
During the deliberations, ADC Imteeaz Kacho emphasised the importance of observing World Environment Day on a large scale to raise public awareness about environmental protection and sustainability. He instructed the concerned Departments to actively participate and coordinate efforts for a successful campaign.
It was informed that during the week-long celebrations, the events would include cleanliness drives, cycle rally, painting and debate competitions, Gram Panchayats among many others aimed to promote eco-friendly activities. The ADC was also informed that a cleanliness drive will be conducted tomorrow at Zero Point. He then suggested that the waste material/garbage collected during the event should be transported to the segregation shed in Drass.
Further, the ADC directed the concerned officials to ensure that Gram Sabhas are convened at the Block level to carry out cleanliness drives in rural areas. The Merchant Association and Transport Union also pledged their support.
Kacho also spoke of the need for making transport arrangements for ferrying students to venues. Further, he advised Government officials to use bicycles or electric buses during the week to go to work as a symbolic gesture of commitment towards environmental sustainability.
