Kargil, June 2, 2025: A Cyclothon titled “Cycle for Health, Sustainability” was successfully organized early this morning in Kargil by the Department of Forest, Ecology & Environment in collaboration with Downhill Kargil Adventure Sports Club, Youth Services & Sports Department and other allied Departments. The event was aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles, sustainable practices and environmental responsibility among the masses.
The Cyclothon was flagged off at 7.00 A.M. by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho from the Tourist Facilitation Centre (TFC) at Byamathang. The cyclists passed through New Bridge (Poyen), Fatima Chowk, and Lal Chowk finally culminating at Rgyal Khatoon Park where the participants took part in a cleanliness drive to beautify the park and spread awareness about environmental conservation.
Before the flag-off, ADC-Kargil addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of adopting cycling as a weekly habit for better health and environmental benefits. He suggested that plant saplings should be given as mementoes during events as a green gesture and contribution to nature. He also urged the participants to spread the week-long message of environmental consciousness and minimize the use of polythene in daily life.
Kacho thanked the Department of Forest, Ecology & Environment and Youth Services & Sports Department for the hard work put in to make the event a great success. Further, he appreciated the role of Downhill Kargil Adventure Sports Club for conceptualizing the cyclothon and turning it into reality.
