Kargil, June 5, 2025 – Preparations are underway in Kargil for the upcoming Mega Yoga Week, scheduled from June 15 to 21, with the main event to be held on June 21 at Khri Sultan Cho Stadium, Byamathang. The initiative is a part of the broader celebrations of International Day of Yoga.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho, chaired a preparatory meeting today to finalize arrangements for the week-long programme. The meeting focused on logistics and inter-departmental coordination to ensure successful events across multiple venues.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer; Executive Engineer, R&B; Executive Officer, Municipal Committee; Headquarter Assistant to DC, Assistant Directors of Tourism and Information, Accounts Officer to DC; Deputy Superintendent of Police; representatives of YSS; NYK Coordinator and the SAI Incharge.
The ADC directed all Government and Private schools, Colleges, ITI and Government Polytechnic and line Departments to conduct yoga-related activities throughout the week. He emphasized that the main gathering on June 21 will include participation from students, teachers, heads of departments and subordinate staff from various departments. He directed that Kargil Campus of University of Ladakh be requested to organize events as well.
Departments such as the Municipal Committee (MC), Public Works (PWD), Youth Services & Sports (DYSSO), Kargil Police, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Tourism and autonomous bodies like Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture & Languages have been tasked with ensuring arrangements related to yoga mats, seating, stage set-up, transportation, medical facilities, refreshments, security and publicity.
The Assistant Director of Information was instructed to carry out extensive promotion of the event through social media and other channels to maximize public engagement.
Further, the School Education Department was asked to coordinate yoga activities at the Higher Secondary level, while DYSSO was directed to deploy yoga trainers and liaise with other departments for event-day support. The Accounts Officer to the DC has been assigned to arrange refreshments for participants.
