ADDC Leh Sonam Nurboo convened a meeting on waste management system in urban and rural areas of Leh district.
Leh, March 5, 2025: The Additional District Development Commissioner, Leh Sonam Nurboo (JKAS) convened a meeting regarding the progress of the waste management system in urban and rural areas of the Leh district at his office chamber today on March 5.
During the meeting, the ADDC reviewed the projects to cater to the waste management system in all villages of the Leh district. The District Panchayat Officer, Junaid Amin Bhat, informed that waste management sheds have been constructed in most of the villages. The purchase of vehicles to collect waste is under process, while in some villages, vehicles are already issued. Further, it was also informed that the waste management system in blocks like Nyoma, Khaltsi, Chuchot and others are already functional.
The ADDC stressed the need for the waste management system to function as soon as possible. He also stressed the importance of focusing on aspirational villages, such as Rupsho and giving priority to them. During the meeting, issues related to the picking of waste materials were also discussed with Municipal Committee Leh, Rural Development Department and Ladakh Recycling Solutions.
Issues related to electricity for the projection of machinery of Ladakh Recycling Solutions at various locations such as Changthang, Nubra were also discussed during the meeting. Executive Engineer PDD informed that the Northern Grid will be connected to Nubra region soon and works are going on in other regions as well. The ADDC directed the DPO and executive engineers to work out the requirements of poles in a written format to submit further.
The meeting was attended by District Panchayat Officer Leh, Executive Office Municipal Committee, Block Development Officer Leh, Executive Engineer PDD Leh and Representatives from Ladakh Recycling Solutions.
