𝐋𝐞𝐡, 𝐃𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟎𝟑, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: The Administrative Secretary of the Agriculture Department, Union Territory of Ladakh, Bhupesh Chaudhary chaired an introductory meeting at his office chamber. The meeting was attended by the concerned department officers, and focused on assessing Ladakh’s agricultural profile, evaluating achievements, and addressing key challenges in the sector.
The Joint Director of Agriculture, Thinles Dawa, delivered a presentation outlining the unique agricultural characteristics of Ladakh, a region marked by its extreme climatic conditions and limited growing season. The presentation provided an overview of the major crops cultivated in the region and their contribution to the local economy. It also delved into the department’s organizational structure, emphasizing the coordination between district and block-level offices to ensure effective policy implementation.
The discussion highlighted the department’s key achievements, including introducing innovative farming techniques, increasing crop yields, and adopting sustainable agricultural practices. The meeting also reviewed the ongoing projects under the Special Development Package (SDP), with a particular focus on the financial allocations and their impact on the ground.
Despite these advancements, the department acknowledged significant challenges such as the region’s harsh weather conditions, limited irrigation infrastructure, and the need to strengthen capacity-building programs for farmers. Addressing these issues, the Administrative Secretary emphasized the importance of leveraging technology and sustainable practices to enhance agricultural productivity and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
