Kargil, 28, August, 2025: Administrative Secretary, Housing & Urban Development and Tourism, UT Ladakh, Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, today visited several sites of ongoing projects in Kargil and Drass. The sites included the Office Complex of Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil, Solid Waste Management Plant (SWM) at Kurbathang and the project site of Remediation and Management of Legacy Waste at Kurbathang. He also visited the Latoo Bhim Pathar, War Memorial and Draupadi Kund in Drass.
The Administrative Secretary was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Kargil; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kargil; UT Ladakh; Executive Officer, MC Kargil; Executive Engineer, Mechanical; Deputy Director, Archaeology & Museums besides other District Officers.
At the under-construction MC Office Complex, the Administrative Secretary instructed the concerned officials to rework the interior design with a focus on creating additional working spaces. He emphasized the need for separate offices for solid waste workers and the sanitary wing. He also directed the Administrator, MC-Kargil to prepare a comprehensive Human Resource Planning Strategy beside other related instructions given.
During his visit to the Solid Waste Management Plant at Kurbathang, the Administrative Secretary stressed on the importance of separating dry and wet waste before final composting in accordance with CPCB guidelines. He instructed that waste from every truck be segregated and directed the Administrator to deploy one official from the Municipal Committee at the site. He also asked the 3R Management Agency to ensure 20% friction picking at the plant and inquired in detail about the functioning of the compositor.
While reviewing the Project for Remediation and Management of Legacy Waste at Kurbathang, Rodrigues directed the contractor to expedite landfilling and Material Collection Point (MCP) works. He emphasized the need for specific plant use in compliance with established laws. He further instructed for a separate dry waste line. Further, he instructed the Executive Officer, MC-Kargil to share the detailed work schedules and to deploy a supervisor from the Municipal Committee for monitoring purposes.
The Administrative Secretary later visited Latoo Bhim Pathar, War Memorial, and Drupadi Kund in Drass where he took stock of the existing status and discussed measures for preservation, development and better facilities for visitors. He directed the concerned officials to outsource the completed assets for better management and upkeep.
