Kargil, June 06, 2025 – Administrative Secretary for Social and Tribal Welfare Department, UT Ladakh, Shashanka Ala (IAS) conducted a comprehensive inspection of key welfare infrastructure projects in Kargil today. The inspection covered the Open Shelter Home, Girls/Women Hostel, Old Age Home, and the Observation Home facilities aimed at supporting vulnerable segments of the population.
During the visit, Secretary Ala expressed concern over delays in execution and issued clear directives to the executing agencies to accelerate the pace of work. She stressed the importance of maintaining strict compliance with construction and quality standards, and underscored that timely completion is essential for delivering the intended benefits to the community.
At the Open Shelter Home, Secretary Ala instructed officials to expedite the remaining work and ensure the immediate procurement and installation of necessary furnishings to make the facility fully operational.
While inspecting the Girls/Women Hostel, contractors assured the Secretary that the facility would be completed within the set deadline. She emphasized that the deadline must be strictly adhered to, given the hostel’s role in providing secure accommodation for female students and working women.
At the Old Age Home site, she expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress and directed the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) to complete the project within the current working season. She highlighted the importance of the facility for senior citizens and made it clear that further delays would not be acceptable.
Inspecting the Observation Home, being executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Secretary Ala reiterated the importance of upholding high construction standards. She was informed of the targeted completion schedule and firmly stated that the project must be completed by the set deadline without fail.
Secretary Ala was accompanied by Director, Social and Tribal Welfare Department, UT Ladakh, Tashi Dolma; District Social Welfare Officer, Kargil, Samina Khatoon; and Accounts Officer, Social and Tribal Welfare Department, Mohammad Hussain.
Reaffirming the UT Administration’s commitment to inclusive growth and welfare, Secretary Shashanka Ala emphasized that these infrastructure projects are crucial for addressing the needs of marginalized communities. She urged all concerned departments and executing agencies to prioritize their timely completion.
