Agriculture Department Kargil organizes awareness program at Yourbaltak.
Kargil, July 06, 2024: Department of Agriculture Kargil Ladakh today organized one day workshop cum awareness camp at Yourbaltak village of Kargil-B zone, in which hundreds of farmers mainly women folk participated in large numbers.
The training session was graced by the presence of Councillor Yourbaltak, Manzoor ul Hussain; Dr Mohd Mehdi Akhone, Principal Scientist KVK -1 Kargil; DAO Extension Kargil; AAI; AEOs and JAEOs of Agriculture Department.
The workshop cum training session was started with welcome speech by AEO of Kargil-B and then the farmers were thoroughly trained by resource persons on different topics viz Buck Wheat cultivation, Pest and Disease Management in vegetable crops, organic farming, importance of protected cultivation & introduction of Ladakh Green House. They were also enlightened on different Central and State sponsored schemes in Kargil district.
The resource person mainly Dr Mohd Mehdi Akhoon during his speech, stressed all the participants to cultivate buck wheat in the local area, as the crop is now a day’s getting famous for medicinal value and can successfully be grown as a second crop in the district.
Furthermore, Dr Mehdi also elaborated farmers regarding the importance of vegetable production and disease management through organic means.
Meanwhile, Mohd Iqbal DAO Extension Kargil briefed about various departmental schemes of both Central and State nature which are implemented in district since many years and stressed on farmers to take benefit of schemes for overall development in agriculture sector in the district.
In the end, Councillor Yourbaltak, Manzoor Ul Hussain also stressed the local farmers to adopt the latest farm technologies and particularly organic farming in their farms and to boost the production of local produce for both local consumption and for commercial marketing and praise Agriculture Department for conducting such type of workshops/awareness camps in the remote villages of Kargil district.
