Leh, June 4, 2025: As part of the pre-campaign activities for World Environment Day 2025, the State Medicinal Plant Board (SMPB), Union Territory of Ladakh organized a full-day cleanliness drive on June 4, 2025.
The drive was carried out at various locations along the Indus River belt and at Jive Tsal, with the objective of raising environmental awareness, preserving Ladakh’s fragile ecosystem, and reinforcing the urgent call to end plastic pollution.
The event witnessed active participation from staff members of the Directorate of Health Services, National AYUSH Mission, and the State Medicinal Plant Board.
The day began with a pledge ceremony, where all participants committed to protecting the environment and reducing plastic use.
Dr. Tashi Thinlas, Director of Health Services/AYUSH/ Chief Executive Officer, the State Medicinal Plant Board, was present during the drive. He emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining cleanliness and encouraged everyone to minimize the use of plastic in daily life to safeguard Ladakh’s unique environment.
Through this initiative, participants not only contributed to keeping the natural surroundings clean but also highlighted the critical need to combat plastic pollution. SMPB urges every citizen to join hands in the global movement to ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ and work collectively toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
