Authorities Settle Tower Site Dispute in Zanskar, Push for Power Project Completion.
Zanskar, July 22, 2026: Hon’ble Executive Councillor, RDD, Forest & Information, LAHDC Kargil, Er. Sh. Punchok Tashi accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar, Sh. Omkar Rajendra Gundage (IAS) and Councillor Sh. Stanzin Jigmath, Superintendent of Police Sh. Rigzin Sangdup (JKPAS),Tehsildar Zanskar Sh. Mohd Hassan, and officials of RECPDCL, visited the disputed sites at Shagar Yokma and Markim concerning the erection of Tower Nos. 2196 to 2199 and 2204 to 2205 under 220 KV Drass-Padum transmission line.
During the visit, discussions were held with the affected villagers, and the long pending grievances were successfully resolved. All the apprehensions of the concerned people were addressed by the Deputy Commissioner. Executing agencies were directed to immediately commence the pending work and expedite the erection of the transmission towers to ensure timely completion of the project.
The dignitaries also inspected the ongoing renovation works of the Haftal Power Project. The concerned engineers assured that the remaining work would be completed within ten days, and directions were issued to ensure early restoration of a reliable electricity supply to the people of Zanskar.
