Awareness program on Sowa-Riga system of medicine entitled “Preservation and Promotion of Sowa-Rigpa in Arunachal Pradesh”.
The National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Leh, has organized an awareness program on Sowa-Riga system of medicine entitled “Preservation and Promotion of Sowa-Rigpa in Arunachal Pradesh” at the Central Institute of Himalayan Culture Studies, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, Dahung, Arunachal Pradesh.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. Gurmet Dorjay, Director, Central Institute of Himalayan Culture Studies. He expressed his gratitude to the National Institute of Sowa Rigpa (NISR), Leh, for initiating this awareness program at the Central Institute of Himalayan Culture Studies, Dahung. Dr Gurmet Dorjay emphasized the significance of traditional medicine for public health in Himalayan regions and encouraged students to consider pursuing careers in Sowa-Rigpa system of Medicine.
Di: Tashi Stobgais, Associate Professor, National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Leh delivered the welcome and introductory address, emphasizing the vital contribution of traditional Sowa-Rigpa medicine for public health in Himalayan regions. He underscored the significance of medicinal plants in the traditional medical practices of the North Eastern region and its economic potentials.
Dr. Tsewang Dhondup of National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa provided a comprehensive overview of the fundamental principles that govern the Sowa- Rigpa system. Dr. Phuntsog Tsering offered a detailed presentation on scope of pursuing Sowa-Riga Graduation and explained about the curriculum associated with the Bachelor of Sowa-Rigpa and Medicine and Surgery (BSRMS) Course, while Shri Rigzin Angdus articulated the carrer opportunities and potential prospects within the field of Sowa Rigpa. The primary objective of this initiative is to introduce students to the Sowa Rigpa system of medicine with a specific focus on its preservation and promotion within the northeast region of India.
The awareness program was attended by over 200 students and faculty members at the Central Institute of Himalayan Cultural Institute of Himalayan Culture Studies in Dahung. The program concluded with a question-and-answer session focused on Sowa-Rigpa medicine, during which all participants expressed a keen interest in Sowa Rigpa system of medicine.
