Bijli Mahotsav under theme Ujjawal Bharat Ujjawal Bhavishya held at Silmo village

KARGIL, JULY 27, 2022: As a part of series of programs of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, Power Development Department (PDD), Power Distribution Department (PDC) Kargil in collaboration with NHPC Ltd. under the Ministry of Power Government of India today organized Bijli Mahotsav under the theme Ujjawal Bharat Ujjawal Bhavishya power@2047 at Silmo village.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC), LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmed was the chief guest on the occasion while Deputy Commissioner and CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve was the guest of honor.
Executive Engineer PDD Altaf Hussain, Executive Engineer PDC Feroz Ahmed, Group General Manager NHPC Vikram Singh, concerned officers from PDD, PDC, Sarpanchs, Panchs, villagers, artists, students of Govt. Higher Secondary Silmoo were present on the occasion.
The CEC extended gratitude to the concerned departments for organizing the event at Silmoo. He hailed the efforts of the Government of India for providing round-the-clock power supply to the unconnected areas. He said uninterrupted power supply in today’s technological era is the basic need as our life has become fully dependent on power.
CEC Khan also said that Silmo village which was not connected with power supply few years back the locals suffered a lot, especially the student community.
He said the long pending demand has been fulfilled with 24/7 electricity supply which shows the commitment of GoI and LAHDC Kargil with the efforts of the District Administration.
He said Govt. Higher Secondary School Silmoo is now fully equipped with ICT labs and smart classrooms which are at functional mode due to uninterrupted electric supply which ultimately benefits students to get modern education.
The CEC also informed locals that the substation has been commissioned at Lalung village which will further enhance the electric supply.
CEC Khan requested locals to use electricity judiciously and requested them to pay bills on time and install meters to develop a proper mechanism.
On the occasion, DC Kargil Santosh Sukhadeve appreciated the collaborative efforts of NHPC, PDD and PDC Departments for doing extraordinary work to connect the villages of the district with electricity supply.
While highlighting the potential of Ladakh in developing solar energy in future, he said soon Ladakh will set the example in the country in terms of developing solar energy and its usage.
The DC assured all support from the administration for implementing various schemes of the Government of India.
He also stressed people to be aware of various centrally sponsored schemes and requested to extend full cooperation in terms of executing these schemes at ground level.
He requested people to hoist Indian National Flag from August 13 to 15 to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, commemorating 75 years of independence as a gesture of patriotism.
Group General Manager NHPC, Vikram Singh in his introductory remarks highlighted the achievements of the GoI in the power sector.
The program ended with screening of short videos on power development, Nukad Natak by Ranthag Theater Group, a cultural program by artists of Ladakh Academy of Art Culture and Languages (LAACL) and a colorful performance by students of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Silmo.
