CEC attends distribution of high-yielding cross-breed Jersey cows in Kargil.
Kargil, Nov 25, 2024: Chairman/Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today as a chief guest attended the inaugural session of the distribution of high-yielding cross breed Jersey cow procured by Animal Husbandry Department Kargil.
On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Councilors, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kargil, Doctors of Animal and Sheep Husbandry, staff and beneficiaries were also present.
On the occasion, the CEC Kargil congratulated the Animal Husbandry Department for timely procuring high-yielding Jersey cows and for organizing the distribution ceremony for the beneficiaries.
Dr. Akhoon stated that such welfare schemes are highly beneficial for marginalized sections of society, as they provide vital support to their financial income. He said that a considerable portion of the local population depends on the farming sector for their livelihood.
CEC Kargil highlighted sectors like agriculture, animal husbandry, sheep rearing and tourism as the backbone of the district in terms of generating income for unemployed youth.
Dr Akhoon said that the Hill Council pays special attention to these sectors to implement progressive initiatives for the welfare of the people and to generate employment opportunities through these sectors.
He also appreciated the Rarzi and Barzi initiatives of the Animal Husbandry Department adding that with these initiatives, people have started keeping livestock which is a very positive development.
CEC Kargil urged farmers to care for the Jersey cattle in accordance with their specific needs and to consult veterinarians to prevent the spread of FMD and other diseases.
Meanwhile, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kargil, Dr Gulzar Hussain highlighted the achievements, activities, awareness programs conducted by the department throughout the year.
