    CEC chairs meeting to discuss issues of street vendors of Kargil town.
    Kargil, January 29, 2025: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today chaired a meeting to discuss various issues of street vendors of Kargil town.
    The meeting was attended by Executive Councilor, Kacho Mohd Feroz, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Wani, Administrator, Municipal Committee (MC) Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Chief Medical Officer Kargil, Tehsildar Kargil, Executive Officer, MC Kargil, representative from Indian Army besides other officers.
    During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on various issues faced by street vendors in Kargil. The EO MC Kargil provided information on the number of vendors registered with MC Kargil and highlighted their key concerns.
    CEC Kargil directed MC Kargil to conduct proper registration and police verification of street vendors, ensuring that eligibility criteria are strictly maintained. He also directed to monitor the annual turnover of vendors to keep track of their earnings.
    The meeting discussed the relocation of vendors to various locations in the town, aiming to address congestion and its impact on traffic mobility. The meeting also provided various suggestions for the relocation of vendors.
    Dr Akhoon directed ACR, Tehsildar Kargil, and EO MC to identify suitable and viable locations in town that would accommodate vendors without disrupting their businesses. The CEC also directed to manage the vendors outside District Hospital Kargil to avoid congestion.
    The EO also said that vendors will be relocated from outside of the gate of District Hospital Kargil near to Council Quarters, where sufficient land is available for them.
    The Executive Officer MC informed the CEC that the department is exploring various possibilities, including providing specially designed food carts with specific measurements for vendors.
    CEC Kargil directed the Executive Officer to identify landslide-prone areas and keep their staff on high alert, especially during snowfall and rainfall, to avoid any natural disasters that may affect residents.
