CEC, DC Kargil attend National Press Day function CEC announces Rs 2 lakh to Press Club Kargil for purchase of machinery Information Department committed to welfare of journalists of Ladakh.
Kargil, Nov 16, 2023: Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Jaffer Mohd Akhoon today attended National Press Day function organized by Press Club of Kargil.
On the occasion Executive Councilor, Social Welfare, Aga Syed Mujtaba, Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Suse, Joint Director, Information, Ladakh Imteeaz Kacho, President Press Club Kargil Hussain Ibn Khaloo, besides other members of the Press Club Kargil and media persons were present.
On the occasion, CEC Kargil congratulated the media fraternity of Kargil on the National Press Day and appreciated the role of media in highlighting the public grievances.
CEC also said that the media has to play a pivotal role to aware people of Kargil about policies and schemes formulated by Union Government and UT Administration.
He stressed that apart from highlighting the genuine grievances of people, media should also highlight the developmental works being executed by LAHDC, Kargil and UT Administration to make people aware about the progress and growth.
The CEC also stressed media persons to be aware of fake news. He said it is the crucial responsibility of a journalist to fact check the news before putting it in public domain.
The CEC said media is the fourth pillar of democracy and has a huge responsibility. He added that media should extensively focus on welfare of people through their reporting.
On the occasion, DC Kargil said media and Administration should work on close coordination for the welfare of people. He advised media persons to raise voice of people besides focus on highlighting the developmental works being executed by the Government. DC Shrikant lauded the responsible role of local media persons of Kargil.
Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho said that as land has been identified for construction of the press club building in Kargil, the execution of construction work should begin soon and assured that the Information Department will pursue the matter with the concerned authorities. He also said that the process of fresh accreditation for this year has been undertaken already and it will be a routine exercise annually. Furthermore, he informed that a welfare scheme for journalists of Ladakh is under process and it would be implemented as soon as approval of the authorities is received.
Members of Press Club Kargil forwarded some issues which mainly included construction of Press Club Kargil along with quarters, welfare scheme, implementation of electronic media policy, separate funds for journalists in yearly CAPEX Budget and other issues.
Meanwhile, the CEC Kargil announced the sanction of Rs. 2.00 lakh in favour of the Press Club Kargil for the purchase of machinery and necessary equipment.
