Kargil, September 08, 2025: A seven-day Art and Craft Workshop organized by Team Stringmo at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) Sankoo Thasgam concluded today with great enthusiasm and active participation from the students.
The event was graced by the Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon, as the Chief Guest. The District Planning Officer, Kargil, attended as Guest of Honour, while Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Sankoo and Zonal Education Planning Officer (ZEPO) Sankoo were also present.
The program began with the recitation of the Holy Quran followed by Naat, after which students showcased their creativity and learnings from the workshop. Throughout the week, participants explored diverse art forms including painting, calligraphy, embroidery, book making, and pebble painting. The initiative aimed to nurture creativity, enhance skills, and revive traditional art practices among the young learners.
In his address, CEC Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon lauded the efforts of the officers, staffs, and Team Stringmo. He emphasized that the girls of KGBV Thasgam represent the future of society, underlining that education, particularly girls’ education, is the foundation of a progressive community. He noted that Kargil district is making significant strides in the education sector and competing at the national level, while also acknowledging the scope for further improvement.
Responding to the demands of the school management, the CEC assured the fulfillment of key requirements, including the construction of compound walling, development of a playground, and installation of a power transformer. He directed ZEO Sankoo to ask Excutive Engineer R&B SVD to prepare Detailed Project Report (DPR) and include the upgradation of KGBV Thasgam in the next financial year. To encourage the students, he also announced a financial award of Rs. 5,000 and hosted a small dinner in honor of the school warden and staff.
ZEO Sankoo, Akbar Khan, presented a detailed briefing on KGBV Thasgam, highlighting its enrollment status, academic standards, and infrastructure requirements. He stressed the urgent need for compound walling and a playground while extending gratitude to Team Stringmo for organizing the workshop. ZEPO Sankoo, Ali Rehman, encouraged the students and assured full departmental support for similar initiatives in the future.
The District Planning Officer commended the workshop and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to extending every possible assistance to strengthen education in the region. He emphasized the importance of skill-based education in enhancing employability and appreciated Team Stringmo for their consistent efforts.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks from the management, staff, and parents, who expressed their gratitude to the dignitaries and Team Stringmo for providing students with such a valuable and enriching platform.
Earlier,Chairman and CEC Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon also visited the Primary School ground at Thasgam Sankoo, where he interacted with students and staff. Villagers raised the demand for the school’s upgradation and improvement in infrastructure, citing its enrollment strength of over 80 students and the need for additional classrooms. The CEC assured construction of new building of the Primary School Thasgam keep view of highest enrollment in school in upcoming Capex Plan 2026–2027.
