    Kargil, September 19, 2025: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon today inaugurated the Grand Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition 2025 organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Zanskar.
    The inaugural session was attended by Executive Councillor Er. Phunchok Tashi, SDM Zanskar Omkar Rajendra, Senior Scientist Dr. Mehdi, along with other concerned officers, officials, progressive farmers, and members of Self Help Groups (SHGs).
    Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon congratulated KVK Zanskar for successfully organizing the event. He reaffirmed LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to the overall development of the farming community through various subsidy schemes. He informed that the Council is extending support to farmers by providing subsidized seeds, vermicompost, pack houses, and greenhouses, besides facilitating exposure tours through the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments to familiarize farmers with modern farming techniques.
    Highlighting the potential of Zanskar in both agriculture and tourism, the CEC expressed optimism that the region would achieve new heights of development in the near future. He also welcomed the newly appointed SDM Zanskar and expressed confidence in his leadership for the betterment of the sub-division.
    In his address, EC Er. Phunchok Tashi welcomed the CEC for inaugurating the Grand Mela. He noted that since the establishment of KVK Zanskar, farmers have been introduced to innovative farming practices and sustainable techniques, enabling them to produce diverse and organic crops. Sharing a success story, he mentioned that a farmer from Zanskar earned approximately ₹1.5 crore last year through the sale of farm produce, showcasing the immense potential of the sector.
    EC Tashi further emphasized that the youth have ample opportunities to excel in farming alongside tourism, adding that Zanskar is steadily emerging as a hub of sustainable agriculture. He assured that LAHDC Kargil remains committed to supporting farmers, particularly the youth interested in agriculture.
    Later, awards were distributed among the best progressive farmers, and consolation prizes were presented to participants who had set up stalls in the exhibition.
