CEC Dr Jaffer reviews functioning of Animal Husbandry Department Kargil.
Kargil, May 23, 2025 – Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today chaired a review meeting of the Animal Husbandry Department to assess its various ongoing works and achievements.
The meeting was virtually attended by the Deputy Director Animal Husbandry, Dr Mohd Musa, besides the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer (CAO) Kargil, Dr Gulzar Hussain, and other concerned officers, and Doctors of the department attended the meeting physically.
Threadbare deliberations and discussions were followed during the meeting, where the CEC was informed about various ongoing works happening under the supervision of the department.
CEC Dr Jaffer highlighted the importance of the Animal Husbandry Department in the promotion of a sustainable economy in the long run, and added that animal diet is important for the nourishment of the population, especially during the winter season.
The CEC appreciated the department for reviving the concept of Rarzi Barzi, which he says, is very important for the present generation to get acquainted with. Besides the way milk societies are providing livelihood to the youths is appreciable, the CEC noted.
While taking note of the importance of the Stock Assistant Training Institute Kargil, the CEC said that it’s a remarkable feat the department has achieved which will benefit aspiring students. Therefore, all ways and measure should be explored for the successful conduct of the training institute with tandem cooperation from the officers and trainers from the department.
The CEC also directed that sterilisation of stray dogs should be achieved on a priority basis and all ways and means should be explored for its execution. He further directed that the ethical code of conduct be maintained and asked to work on the missionary spirit.
CEC Dr Jaffer also took an assessment of curative and preventive measures related to the treatment of the animals, and also asked about the status of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) management.
The CEC also took block-wise assessment from the concerned officers related to the ongoing works of the department.
During the meeting, CAO Dr Gulzar Hussain gave a detailed review of the works and achievements of the department, including doorstep veterinary facilities, poultry development, anti-rabies vaccination of cattle, genetic upgradation using artificial insemination, advanced veterinary services and awareness camps.
Further, the CAO also informed about the approval of the Veterinary Hospital at the TSG block and the functioning of the stock Assistant Training Institute, Kargil.
Deputy Director, Dr Musa gave detailed information about the new central-sponsored schemes and assured that the Stock Assistant Training Institute will be operated with due commitment and professionalism.
