CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon Attends Closing Ceremony of Late Qamar Ali Akhoon Memorial Volleyball League 2026.
Kargil, July 18, 2026: Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today attended the closing ceremony of the Late Qamar Ali Akhoon Memorial Volleyball League 2026 as the Chief Guest at the Khree Sultan Cho Sports Stadium.
The week-long tournament, organised from July 12 to July 18, witnessed enthusiastic participation from 18 teams representing various areas of the Drass region, in addition to Barsoo, Sankoo, Batalik, and other neighbouring villages. The league provided a vibrant platform for young athletes to showcase their talent while promoting sportsmanship, unity, and healthy competition.
The grand finale was played between the University of Ladakh and Team TRP, (Trespone) with the University of Ladakh emerging as the champions. Team TRP finished as the runners-up.
The winning team was awarded a cash prize of ₹30,000 along with a trophy, while the runner-up received a cash prize of ₹20,000 and a trophy.
Addressing the gathering, CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon highlighted the efforts of LAHDC Kargil in promoting sports and youth development across the district. He said the LAHDC Kargil is making significant investments in sports infrastructure, including facilities for ice hockey, ring cricket infrastructure, football ground archery, indoor games, AstroTurf grounds, indoor stadiums, and multipurpose sports halls, to provide better opportunities for aspiring sportspersons.
The CEC emphasized that LAHDC Kargil remains fully committed to the overall development of the district, with focused efforts in education, healthcare, tourism, sports, and other key sectors aimed at improving the quality of life for the people.
Appreciating the organisers for successfully conducting the tournament, Dr. Akhoon said such sporting events play a vital role in positively engaging youth, promoting discipline, and nurturing talent. He also congratulated all participating teams and appreciated the players for their enthusiasm, dedication, and spirit of fair play.
On the occasion, the CEC announced ₹50,000 each for the champion and runner-up teams through the Youth Services & Sports Department for the purchase of sports equipment. He further announced ₹1 lakh for equipments via department of youth and Sports for the organisers to strengthen sports infrastructure and support future sporting activities.
Dr. Akhoon also informed that the Council has taken up the matter with the UT Administration for the creation of an instant funding mechanism under the Revenue Component to ensure timely financial support during emergencies and urgent public requirements.
Concluding his address, the CEC extended his best wishes to all players for their future endeavours and encouraged them to pursue excellence in both sports and education, stating that academic achievement and sporting excellence together are essential for building a bright and successful future.
