CEC Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon Reviews Flash Flood Restoration, Irrigation and Drinking Water Supply in Kargil.
Kargil, August 17, 2026: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today chaired a review meeting to assess the status of restoration works following the recent flash floods, particularly irrigation infrastructure and drinking water supply across different regions of Kargil.
During the meeting, Dr Akhoon appreciated the efforts of all line departments for carrying out restoration and relief works on a war footing. He stressed upon the concerned departments to take all grievances raised by the public seriously and make every possible effort to address them promptly.
The CEC also emphasised the need for close coordination and cooperation among all departments to ensure that restoration works are completed efficiently and without unnecessary delays. He directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil to closely supervise and monitor the ongoing restoration processes and ensure effective coordination among the concerned departments.
Heads of various line departments briefed the CEC and representatives on the latest status of restoration works, drinking water supply, irrigation infrastructure, compensation claims and applications received from affected people. They also apprised the meeting of the concerns and challenges being faced during the ongoing restoration process.
Dr Akhoon assured the concerned officials and representatives that every possible support would be extended by the administration to expedite restoration and address the genuine concerns of the affected population. He reiterated that the administration remains actively engaged in the restoration process and is committed to providing necessary assistance to the people.
The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor Altaf Hussain, Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Shabbir Hussain, Tehsildar Kargil Ayaz Ahmed Bhat, Superintending Engineer PHE, Executive Engineers of Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) and PHE, besides officials from other concerned departments.
