    Kargil, July 20, 2026: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon today visited the flash flood-affected Brakoo Village of Thasgam in Sankoo Sub-Division to assess the extent of damage caused by the recent flash floods and review the ongoing relief and restoration measures.
    During the visit, the CEC inspected the affected areas and interacted with local residents to take first-hand stock of the situation. The villagers informed him that the flash floods had severely damaged the village’s main water canal, the primary source of drinking and irrigation water. They also highlighted extensive damage to the canal, footpath, agricultural land, trees, and grazing areas, which has adversely affected the livelihood of the local population.
    The residents urged the CEC to accord top priority to the restoration of the drinking water supply, repair of the damaged canal, and reconstruction of the canal footpath to enable the resumption of normal life and agricultural activities.
    Responding to the concerns raised by the villagers, Dr. Mohd. Jaffer Akhoon assured them that restoration of the drinking water supply would be undertaken on a priority basis. He directed the concerned departments to immediately initiate restoration works for the damaged canal and footpath and ensure that essential services are restored without delay.
    The CEC further assured the affected families that a comprehensive assessment of the damages would be carried out and that compensation would be provided strictly in accordance with the prevailing government norms.
    Dr. Akhoon reiterated the commitment of the LAHDC Kargil and the district administration to stand with the affected families during this difficult time and ensure timely relief, rehabilitation, and restoration of public infrastructure.
    The residents of Brakoo expressed their sincere gratitude to the CEC for personally visiting the flood-affected village, listening to their grievances, and assuring prompt action. They appreciated his compassionate approach and commitment towards ensuring early restoration and support for the affected community.
