CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon Visits Landslide-Affected Areas of Khawos and Namsuru

Kargil, August 17, 2025: Hon’ble Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, visited several landslide-affected areas including Khawos, Namsuru, and nearby villages to assess the damage caused by recent cloudbursts and to oversee relief and restoration efforts.
During the visit, Dr. Akhoon was accompanied by the Executive Engineer (Irrigation), Tehsildars Tai Suru, BDO Tai Suru, and officials from the Irrigation, PHE, and R&B Departments, along with other concerned officers.
The CEC directed the Irrigation Department to immediately restore the major irrigation canals and instructed the BDO to clear and restore the smaller khuls (local water channels) in the affected areas. He further directed that these temporary restoration works be carried out under various departmental schemes to support the local population and safeguard the standing crops.
Dr. Akhoon also stressed that basic needs such as drinking water and electricity must be restored on priority so that the local residents do not face further hardships.
Separately, the CEC reviewed the construction of the Sherkad Nala, a ₹16-crore project under the Special Development Package (SDP), and was informed that the tendering process is in its final stage. He also suggested that the R&B Division Sankoo take up the construction of the Kalwat Multi-Span Bridge to improve connectivity.
Dr. Akhoon assured the residents that the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil will extend every possible assistance and support to the affected communities.
Later, the CEC visited the Suru Valley Festival venue, where he was accompanied by Assistant Director Tourism, Mohammad Ali Tak. He interacted with the organizers, reviewed the arrangements, and passed necessary directions to ensure smooth conduct of the event.
