    CEC Kargil Attends Concluding Day of One Lakh Mega Plantation Drive at Trespone.
    Kargil, May 19, 2025: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, attended the One Lakh Mega Plantation Drive as the Chief Guest held at Trespone, Kargil. The event marked a significant milestone in Kargil’s environmental conservation efforts and was primarily organized by Jamiat-ul-Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil (JUAIK), under the leadership of its President, Shaikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi, in collaboration with the AL-Hima-Laya Green Mission and Research Centre.
    In his address, Dr. Akhoon specially congratulated Shaikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi for his exemplary leadership in achieving over 1.24 lakh plantations within a short span. He praised Shaikh Nazir’s dedication and tireless efforts in mobilizing the community towards this ambitious green mission. While appreciating the role of AL-Hima-Laya Centre, Dr. Akhoon emphasized that the vision of Shaikh Nazir and JUAIK have been instrumental in the success of this initiative.
    Dr. Akhoon highlighted the importance of planting Seabuckthorn, locally known as Tsokskyur, a medicinal shrub valued for its health and skincare benefits, and urged the team to continue expanding such plantation drives in the coming years.
    Expressing his personal association with JUAIK, Dr. Akhoon mentioned his longstanding support as a silent volunteer, bond member, and founding member of social projects such as Jawadiah Project CARE Kargil and Al-Reza Hospital, both of which contribute significantly to education and healthcare in the district. He commended JUAIK’s ongoing commitment to social welfare through education, healthcare, and environmental conservation.
    He requested Executive Councillor Agha Mujtaba to initiate more community plantation drives annually and assured that LAHDC Kargil is actively addressing water scarcity challenges. Dr. Akhoon also acknowledged the Agriculture Department’s efforts to promote mushroom cultivation as part of agricultural diversification.
    He urged Member of Parliament, Ladakh, Haji Hanifa Jan, to continue advocating for the district’s development at the central level. The CEC also welcomed the newly appointed Assistant Director Tourism, Ali Tak, and thanked Chief Horticulture Officer Ali Raza for his dedicated support in horticultural initiatives.
    In his remarks, MP Ladakh Haji Hanifa Jan congratulated the entire team, especially President Shaikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi and Al-Hima-Laya green mission for reaching the impressive milestone of over 1.24 lakh plantations in a short timeframe. He described the achievement as commendable and encouraged continued efforts to green the region.
    Executive Councillor Er. Phuntsog Tashi also appreciated the dedication and efforts of all involved.
    Concluding the event, Executive Councillor Agha Mujtaba expressed deep gratitude to President Shaikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi and thanked CEC Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon for his unwavering support in uplifting the district’s villages and environment.
