CEC Kargil Dr. Jaffer Akhoon discusses apricot orchard damage with HLG, Chief Secretary Ladakh caused by recent snowfall.
Kargil, April 22, 2025: Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today held discussions with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh and Chief Secretary Ladakh regarding the extensive damage to apricot orchards and trees across various parts of Kargil caused by the recent untimely snowfall.
Dr. Akhoon emphasized the severity of the situation, noting that the snowfall during the peak flowering stage of apricot trees has caused significant loss to the region’s farmers and orchardists, threatening both their livelihood and the local horticulture-based economy.
He urged the UT Administration to immediately assess the extent of the damage and sanction interim relief under disaster relief and adequate compensation to the affected orchardists at the earliest.
The CEC further discussed the deployment of concerned departmental teams to carry out on-ground surveys and facilitate an early support mechanism.
The CEC expressed hope that the UT Administration under the leadership of the HLG would prioritize this concern and extend necessary financial support to the farmers of Kargil.
