    CEC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon Chaired High-Level Meeting to Review and Strengthen Education Sector in Kargil

    Kargil, August 13, 2025: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today chaired a high-level meeting with Bhanu Prabha, Administrative Secretary of Higher Education, School Education, Technical Education & Skill Development, UT Ladakh, to review the progress of ongoing and newly introduced schemes of the School Education Department and to deliberate on measures aimed at strengthening the standard of education in Kargil district.
    The meeting was convened at the Conference Hall, Baroo, Kargil, and brought together key officials and stakeholders to address pressing issues in the education sector. The meeting was attended by Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Ex-Officio Member, LAHDC Kargil) Haji Hanifa Jan, Hon’ble Executive Councillors, Councillors of LAHDC Kargil, Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC Kargil Rakesh Kumar, Director School Education UT Ladakh, Chief Education Officer Kargil, Principal DIET Kargil, Deputy Chief Education Officer Sankoo, along with Principals of Government Higher Secondary Schools, Zonal Education Officers and Headmasters of Government High Schools.
    Discussions covered a wide range of subjects including the progress and expenditure under Samagra Shiksha, the current status of works under the Special Development Package, the implementation of PM SHRI Schools, the rationalisation of teaching staff, and the execution of the Winter Residential Coaching Programme.
    Director School Education, Tsering Paldan, presented a detailed overview of CBSE results for Classes 10th and 12th, highlighting concerns over average student scores in various subjects, the importance of pre-board examinations, and strengthening parent-teacher communication. He shared relevant data and figures with stakeholders and sought their suggestions for better academic performance.
    Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, after reviewing the data, stressed the urgency of identifying the root causes of weak results and encouraged councillors and principals to put forward practical solutions. He also introduced a draft transfer policy that, once finalised in consultation with stakeholders, would be implemented with complete transparency and accountability, which he described as the need of the hour. Dr. Akhoon further emphasised the importance of devising both short-term and long-term solutions or policies, including remedial and residential classes, while underscoring the need to strengthen elementary education as the foundation for future academic success.
    Dr. Akhoon extended his gratitude to Bhanu Prabha for facilitating such a productive meeting and assured that LAHDC Kargil would fully support all initiatives aimed at uplifting the education sector. He underscored that collective sacrifice and commitment are the only means to bring meaningful improvements to the system.
    Hon’ble Member of Parliament Haji Hanifa Jan also expressed appreciation for the discussions, urging that the resolutions must translate into action on the ground. Stressing that education is the foundation of the future, he called for zero tolerance towards any compromise in quality and urged all stakeholders to treat the matter with utmost seriousness.
    Administrative Secretary Banu Prabha thanked all participants for their active engagement and important inputs. She emphasised the importance of cooperation, the introduction of innovative teaching methodologies, and the inclusion of stakeholder recommendations to bring about meaningful and sustainable improvements in school education.
    The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to work in unison towards improvement in the educational standards of Kargil district, ensuring that the outcomes are both practical and impactful for the future of the region’s students.
