CEC Kargil Engages with Parents of Specially Abled Children, Assures Supportive Infrastructure.
Kargil, July 21, 2025 – Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, met with parents and specially abled students at his office today to discuss concerns related to educational access and inclusive facilities.
During the meeting, the delegation apprised Dr. Akhoon of the difficulties faced by specially abled children in accessing education. They stressed the urgent need for inclusive infrastructure and supportive treatment within the school system.
Dr. Akhoon assured the visitors that the matter is a top priority for the council. He expressed personal commitment to addressing the concerns raised and promised proactive steps.
The CEC informed the delegation about an ongoing construction project—a dedicated hostel for specially abled students being built near the council secretariat. The project, with an allocated budget of ₹48.91 crore (₹4891.16 lakhs), aims to provide accessible facilities tailored to the needs of differently abled children.
He further announced that a special transport facility would be made available to the students upon the hostel’s completion.
Dr. Akhoon also revealed plans to convene a high-level meeting with key officials, including the District Magistrate of Kargil, the Director of Social Welfare, Chief Medical Officers, and others. The aim is to explore further initiatives to enhance support systems for specially abled children across the district.
