CEC Kargil Flags Off Distribution of Organic Fertilizer for Crop Season 2026–27.
Kargil, March 16, 2026: The Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today flagged off 270 quintals of organic fertilizer in the first phase to Chanigund and Karkitchu villages. The distribution of organic fertilizer is being carried out under the initiative “Cultivating Prosperity” for the upcoming crop season 2026–27. The distribution drive has been organized by the Department of Cooperatives, Kargil, UT Ladakh, at Kurbathang, Kargil.
Dr. Akhoon emphasized the growing importance of organic fertilizers in promoting sustainable and organic farming practices across the region. He highlighted that the objective of the district is to achieve 100 percent procurement and distribution of organic fertilizers to support farmers and enhance agricultural productivity.
However, he noted that an abrupt shift away from chemical fertilizers such as urea is not immediately feasible. In this regard, he directed that at least 20 percent distribution of urea fertilizers may continue temporarily, while gradually reducing their use over time and encouraging farmers to adopt organic alternatives.
The CEC directed the Deputy Registrar Cooperative, Kargil, to ensure the proper recording and implementation of the proposed 20 percent urea distribution, while simultaneously ensuring that the distribution of organic fertilizers is carried out in a fair, transparent, and timely manner for the benefit of the farming community.
Among others present on the occasion were Incharge Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Kargil/Tehsildar Kargil Ayaz Ahmed, Additional Registrar Cooperative Nargis Banoo, Assistant Registrar Cooperative Parveen Akhtar, Chief Agriculture Officer Kargil Ashiq Hussain, and BDO Pashkum, along with officials from the Cooperative Department.
