CEC Kargil Flags Off First Consignment of Sea Buckthorn Pulp to Delhi.
Kargil, August 28, 2026: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today flagged off the first consignment of sea buckthorn pulp from Kargil to Delhi, marking a significant step towards promoting local agro-processing, value addition and market opportunities for the region’s sea buckthorn produce.
The consignment has been processed by M/s Rabbani Agri Processing Unit (RAPU) and is being sent to Delhi in collaboration with Well With India Pvt. Ltd. The initiative is expected to strengthen the local value chain of sea buckthorn and provide enhanced opportunities for farmers and local entrepreneurs.
The programme was attended by Executive Councillors Aga Syed Mujtaba Mussavi, Syed Ali and Altaf Hussain, besides Chief Horticulture Officer Kargil Ali Raza, Co-Founder of RAPU and entrepreneur Mohd Hassan, and other concerned stakeholders.
Speaking on the occasion, CEC Dr. Jaffer Akhoon appreciated the initiative and said that the establishment of local processing facilities is essential for ensuring greater value addition to Kargil’s agricultural and horticultural produce.
He highlighted the considerable potential of sea buckthorn as a commercially viable local resource, particularly in areas of processing, value addition, employment generation and market expansion. He stressed the need to encourage more local entrepreneurs to venture into agro-processing so that locally produced raw material can be processed within Kargil and generate greater economic returns for the people.
The CEC assured the unit of continued support from LAHDC Kargil and announced that the Council would facilitate the provision of an electric transformer for the processing unit. He also assured support for providing suitable tiles capable of withstanding acidic reactions, which would help ensure a durable and appropriate processing environment.
Dr. Jaffer further called upon the concerned departments and local entrepreneurs to work in coordination to strengthen processing, packaging, branding and marketing of local products and establish stronger linkages with markets outside Ladakh.
He said that initiatives such as these can play an important role in creating employment opportunities, promoting entrepreneurship and enhancing farmers’ incomes, while also establishing Kargil’s unique products in national markets.
The CEC congratulated M/s Rabbani Agri Processing Unit for its initiative and expressed hope that the first consignment would pave the way for wider market expansion and encourage more such ventures in the agro-processing sector in Kargil.
