CEC Kargil Hands Over Refrigerated Transport Vehicle to Boost Ladakh’s Horticulture Supply Chain.
Kargil, January 14, 2025: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today handed over a Refrigerated Transport Vehicle to M/S Halman Apricot, Kargil at the Council Secretariat, Kargil, sanctioned under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) scheme.
The refrigerated transport vehicle has been sanctioned by the Horticulture Department, UT Ladakh under the Integrated Post-Harvest Management component of MIDH, with the objective of facilitating private fruit growers and entrepreneurs in the safe and efficient transportation of fresh apricot, apple, and other horticultural produce from UT Ladakh to markets in other States.
The vehicle, with an intake capacity of 13.5 metric tonnes, is equipped with temperature-controlled technology to ensure quality preservation during transit. A subsidy incentive of 50 percent has been approved in accordance with the Operational Guidelines of MIDH 2025 for the financial year 2025–26.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon emphasized that the introduction of refrigerated transport facilities will play a vital role in reducing post-harvest losses, maintaining produce quality, extending shelf life, and improving market access for horticultural products from the high-altitude region of Ladakh.
The initiative is expected to significantly strengthen the cold-chain infrastructure in UT Ladakh and enhance income opportunities for fruit growers, farmers, and entrepreneurs associated with horticulture value chains.
The support reflects the continued commitment of the MIDH scheme towards promoting efficient post-harvest management, minimizing wastage, and encouraging the sustainable development of the horticulture sector, particularly in remote and climatically challenging regions like Ladakh.
