Kargil, November 01, 2025: The Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, inaugurated the newly macadamized link road at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil.
The inauguration marks the fulfillment of the Hon’ble CEC’s earlier commitment to KVK Kargil, aimed at improving accessibility and strengthening the institute’s agricultural research and outreach activities.
During the event, the Hon’ble CEC interacted with Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir, and his team, highlighting the collective commitment of the administration and agricultural institutions to advance research, innovation, and extension services in the region.
Dr. Akhoon emphasized that sustained collaboration between the government of Jammu and kashmir and Ladakh researchers, and farmers is vital to ensuring food security and promoting sustainable livelihoods under Ladakh’s unique agro-climatic conditions.
In a detailed discussion following the inauguration, deliberations focused on enhancing research–extension–farmer linkages, adopting modern agricultural technologies suited to the region’s environment, and addressing challenges related to livestock development, horticulture, and crop diversification.
Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Kashmir, stressed the significance of collaborative efforts between LAHDC Kargil, SKUAST-Kashmir, and the University of Ladakh to achieve sustainable agricultural growth. He lauded the proactive initiatives of the local administration for strengthening Kargil’s agricultural ecosystem.

The event concluded with a collective commitment to strengthen institutional collaboration and ensure that agricultural innovation and technology effectively reach the grassroots level—paving the way for the holistic development of Ladakh’s agricultural sector.
