    CEC Kargil Inspects Flood-Affected Areas of Samrah and Kukarchey Chiktan; Issues On-Spot Directions for Immediate Restoration Measures.
    Kargil, July 25, 2025 – Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon today conducted an extensive inspection of the flood-affected areas of Samrah Chiktan and Kukarchey Chiktan following recent flash floods and cloudburst incidents that caused damage to public and private property.
    CEC Dr. Akhoon was accompanied by Executive Councillor for Works, Kacho Mohammad Feroz, Executive Councillor Zakir Hussain, Hon’ble Councillor , Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar (IAS), Councilor Stakchey Khangral Liyaqut Ali Khan, SDM Shakar Chiktan, BDO Shakar Chiktan, XEN PHE and Irrigation and other concerned district officers.
    During the visit, the CEC inspected the damaged Panchayat Ghar and Government Hospital at Samrah Chiktan, agricultural lands, personal properties of locals, and the flood-hit Government Middle School Kukarchey Chiktan.
    Taking serious note of the damages, Dr. Akhoon issued on-spot instructions to the concerned officers for immediate and temporary restoration. He directed the SDM and BDO Shakar Chiktan to urgently clear and restore small irrigation canals (Yurba) used for agricultural purposes. He also instructed the Irrigation and Flood Control Department to take up the restoration of major canals on priority. The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department was directed to restore drinking water supply at the earliest.
    CEC Dr. Akhoon also directed the officer in charge of 81 RCC (GREF), Project Vijayak, to prioritize road restoration works. He appreciated the efforts of BRO machinery operators and labourers for their swift road clearance operations following the flood and cloudburst.
    Further, the CEC instructed the SDM to ensure that debris (malba) at Government Middle School Kukarchey Chiktan is cleared before the reopening of schools after the summer vacation. He also directed the Chief Agriculture Officer to conduct a comprehensive assessment of crop losses due to the flood.
    CEC Dr. Akhoon assured the local population that the administration is committed to taking all possible measures for the immediate restoration of essential services, including road connectivity, drinking water, irrigation canals, and clearance of debris from cultivated land. He emphasized that these efforts will remain a top priority.
    In addition, the CEC directed the Deputy Commissioner to take up the matter with the UT Administration for declaring the incident under Disaster Management norms after necessary confirmation from the Meteorological Department. He also stated that he would formally request Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh for enhanced allocation of funds under natural calamity relief to support ongoing and future restoration efforts.
