CEC Kargil Reviews ₹98-Crore Multi-Level Parking Project Near Old Taxi Stand.
Kargil, July 24, 2025 – Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, convened a high-level meeting today to review the feasibility of constructing a Multi-Level Car Parking facility near the old taxi stand in Kargil.
The meeting was attended by Executive Councillor Kacho Mohammad Feroz, Deputy Commissioner and CEO LAHDC Kargil Rakesh Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Imteeaz Kacho, Executive Engineer R&B, Executive Officer Municipal Committee, and representatives from GPS Green Building Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi — the consulting firm for the project.
The consultant from GPS Green Building Pvt. Ltd. gave a detailed presentation on the proposed structure and the facilities to be provided. The parking facility will have four floors, including commercial purpose on the fourth floor, green spaces, toilet facilities, and lift access. It will be developed in two phases — with Phase I estimated at ₹56.79 crores and Phase II at ₹41.56 crores. Once completed, the facility will accommodate approximately 300 vehicles at a time.
CEC Kargil appreciated the consultant and allied departments for their efforts and emphasized that the project would significantly reduce traffic congestion in Kargil’s main market area. He directed the ADC to initiate paperwork for dismantling the existing old structures to ensure smooth execution of the project.
Dr. Akhoon also suggested the installation of an LED screen at the construction site to play a 3D video illustrating the project’s features and benefits for public awareness. He stressed the need to submit the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to higher authorities at the earliest to obtain administrative approval and commence construction without delay.
DC Kargil, Rakesh Kumar, recommended utilizing the fourth floor for commercial purposes, especially a food court, highlighting that the top elevation would offer a scenic view for the public. Various technical aspects were also discussed to enhance the overall functionality and public convenience of the proposed multi-level parking facility.
