CEC Kargil Visits Search and Rescue Operation Site Near Drass, Commends Volunteers and Agencies for Their Dedicated Efforts.
Kargil, June 29, 2026: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, today visited the ongoing search and rescue operation site near Drass, where teams are continuing efforts to recover the bodies of the victims of the recent tragic accident in the Drass River.
During his visit, the CEC reviewed the progress of the operation and interacted with the rescue teams and volunteers engaged in the challenging mission.
Dr. Akhoon extended his heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the professional volunteer swimmers Hamza, Shahbaz, Altaf, and Manzoor, Muneeb who travelled from Jammu and Kashmir to assist in the search operation. He lauded their exceptional courage, selfless service, and unwavering commitment to humanity, stating that despite difficult conditions and enormous risks to their own lives, they have displayed remarkable dedication in carrying out the rescue mission.
The CEC also expressed his sincere thanks to Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho; SSP Drass, Ishtiyaq Kacho; the UTDRF team; Al- Mehdi Scout Team; Basij Imam IKMT; Basij -e- Baqiyatullah ASZ; and people of Drass, Lankerchey, Saliskote and religious organisations; the Indian Army; ex-servicemen; and all other departments, volunteers, and individuals involved in the ongoing search operation. He appreciated their coordinated efforts, tireless contribution, and commitment in responding to the tragedy.
Expressing profound grief over the unfortunate incident, Dr. Akhoon conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for strength and patience for them during this difficult time.
The CEC reiterated that LAHDC Kargil stands firmly with the affected families and assured that all possible assistance and support will be extended to them. He further stated that the Council remains committed to supporting the ongoing rescue operation and every necessary measure to assist those affected by the tragedy.
