New Delhi: Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, today called on Dr. Mansukh L. Mandaviya, Hon’ble Union Minister for Labour, Employment and Youth Affairs and Sports, at New Delhi and held a detailed and productive meeting on key developmental priorities concerning Kargil district including the new districts of Drass and Zanskar.
During the meeting, the CEC formally invited the Hon’ble Union Minister to grace the upcoming Suru Summer Festival as Chief Guest, highlighting the festival’s significance in promoting local culture, tourism and the scenic Suru Valley on the national stage. Dr. Mandaviya graciously accepted the invitation and confirmed his presence as Chief Guest at the festival, evincing keen interest in the region’s cultural heritage and tourism potential.
The discussion also focused on the proposed establishment of a Centre of Excellence in Sports and Mountaineering Institute in Kargil. Dr. Akhoon apprised the Union Minister of the region’s natural potential for mountaineering and adventure sports, and requested support for setting up a dedicated institute that would provide world class training facilities to the youth of Ladakh and position Kargil as a hub for mountaineering sports in the country.
Employment related issues concerning the youth of the districts were also taken up during the meeting. The CEC emphasised the need for skill development initiatives, job creation avenues and greater central support to address unemployment challenges faced by the region’s youth.
Dr. Mandaviya assured the CEC of full support from the Ministry and stated that the concerns raised would be taken cognizance of on priority.
The CEC expressed gratitude to Dr. Mandaviya for according time for the meeting and reaffirmed LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to working closely with the Union Government for the holistic development of the districts.
