Chairperson District Cooperative Development Committee chairs meeting for celebration of International Year of Cooperatives.

Kargil, February 04, 2025: Chairperson District Cooperative Development Committee chaired a meeting of District Cooperative Development Committee to discuss the celebration of International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025 in Kargil district.
Deputy Registrar Cooperative, Dr Zakir Hussain informed the meeting that the role and responsibilities of District Cooperative Development Committee is to develop a strategic district-level plan for the IYC celebrations including goals, key activities and timelines with an annual activity calendar.
The Chairperson discussed the annual activity calendar for various events for celebration of the International Year of Cooperatives in the district that include organic farming campaign, workshops with cooperative societies, training in cooperative management, cooperative festival, campaign for activation of non-functional societies, tree plantation, organic exhibitions, talk shows, promotion of success stories, and other relevant programs.
The Chairperson instructed all departments to cooperate in cooperatives’ development and progress in their respective fields like agriculture, horticulture, fisheries, animal husbandry, Sheep husbandry etc. while ensuring smooth conduct of the International Year of Cooperatives activities throughout the year. The Chairperson also instructed all the stakeholders to nominate their departmental representatives and inform the chair accordingly for smooth conduct of the activities.
Dr Zakir Hussain further informed about the functioning of milk cooperative societies, fisheries-related cooperative societies and other cooperatives functioning in the department. He also informed about other initiatives of the department being taken in the district.
He further informed the Chairperson that a milk pasteurization plant is also being established that will benefit the farmers to sell their milk produces at good price.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies, Chief Agriculture Officer, Chief Horticulture Officer, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Assistant Director Department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Assistant Director Fisheries, Assistant Information Officer, Manager NABARD, Senior Manager State Cooperative Bank of the district, representative of FCI, representative of NDDB, Managing Director District Milk Union and Managing Director District Fisheries Union.
