Changthang Administration Cracks Down on Single-Use Plastic; First Challan Issuedin Durbuk.
In a major step toward enforcing environmental regulations and preserving the pristine ecology of the region, the Administration of District Changthang has issued its first official challan receipt for a Single-Use Plastic (SUP) violation.
At the GREF Wet Canteen in Durbuk the violator, identified as Mr. Manish Naruka, was found in possession of 1 KG of single-use plastic. Under the strict directives of the administration’s environmental conservation laws, a spot penalty of ₹2,000 (Rupees Two Thousand only) was imposed and recovered in cash. The action was executed by Mohd Ismail Ganie (JKAS), Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Durbuk, representing the Revenue Department. It represents zero-tolerance policy toward the use, sale, and distribution of banned single-use plastics and littering across
the region by the district administration Changthang. This first enforcement action serves as a strong warning to commercial establishments and individuals alike to strictly adhere to environmental guidelines.
The local administration urges all residents, shopkeepers, and tourists to cooperate in keeping Ladakh clean and green by adopting eco-friendly alternatives. Regular inspection drives will continue across the Durbuk sub-division.
