    Leh, September 29: Chief Secretary, Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, today inspected the Youth Hostel building at Skara Yokma and the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) building at Agling, Leh, to assess the facilities and infrastructure for the establishment of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu Satellite Campus in Leh.
    He was accompanied by Administrative Secretary, Public Works Department (PWD), Baseer-ul-Haq Chaudhary; Administrative Secretary, Higher Education, Youth Services and Sports, Bhanu Prabha; and other concerned officials.
    At the Youth Hostel, the Chief Secretary conducted a detailed inspection of the available facilities and reviewed arrangements for electricity, heating, bedding and other essential amenities. He enquired about the status of the available infrastructure and directed the concerned officials to ensure that all necessary facilities are put in place for the effective utilisation of the building as a hostel for students of the IIM Jammu Satellite Campus.
    The Administrative Secretary, Higher Education, Youth Services and Sports, briefed the Chief Secretary on the ongoing works and arrangements being made at the site.
    The inspection comes in the backdrop of the Administration’s initiative to expand access to quality higher education in Ladakh. The UT Administration of Ladakh and IIM Jammu have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for establishing an IIM Jammu Satellite Campus at Leh. The initiative aims to provide greater access to quality management education and create new academic, professional and entrepreneurial opportunities for the youth of Ladakh.
    Under the MoU, the satellite campus will offer a four-year BBA (Honours) programme with an initial intake of 60 students. The programme is scheduled to commence in October 2026. Around 600 candidates have reportedly expressed interest in the 60 available seats, reflecting strong interest in management education among the youth of Ladakh.
    The Chief Secretary also inspected the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies building at Agling, Leh, identified for the establishment of the IIM Jammu Satellite Campus. He reviewed the available facilities and infrastructure and enquired about the status of essential services and other arrangements required for the smooth functioning of the campus.
    During the visit, the concerned officials briefed the Chief Secretary on the progress of ongoing works and the arrangements at both locations. The executing agency assured the Chief Secretary that the remaining works would be completed at the earliest.
