Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra visits Government Degree College Zanskar.
Zanskar, October 4, 2026: Chief Secretary, Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, today visited Government Degree College Zanskar and reviewed the academic, infrastructural and student-centric initiatives being undertaken by the institution.
During the visit, the Chief Secretary was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner, Zanskar, Shri Omkar Rajendra Gundage; Senior Superintendent of Police, Shri Rigzin Sangdup; and officers of the Public Works Department. Principal, Government Degree College Zanskar, Dr. Amjad Ali Abbasi, along with Assistant Professor of English, Dr. Jamphel Sheyan, escorted the Chief Secretary around the campus and briefed him on the college’s academic activities and development initiatives.
The Chief Secretary visited the newly constructed Multipurpose Hall and Science Laboratory and took stock of the infrastructure and facilities available for students. The Principal briefed him on the facilities and their role in strengthening academic activities, practical learning and skill development.
Dr. Amjad Ali Abbasi also apprised the Chief Secretary of the progress made by the institution and highlighted various initiatives aimed at enhancing students’ learning and employability. These include skill development, vocational education, experiential learning, entrepreneurship, adventure activities and other student-centric programmes.
During the visit, the college showcased its mushroom cultivation initiative, aimed at promoting innovative, sustainable and locally relevant livelihood opportunities. Equipment used for high-altitude trekking and adventure activities was also displayed, highlighting the institution’s emphasis on experiential learning and practical exposure suited to the unique Himalayan environment of Zanskar.
The Chief Secretary appreciated the initiatives being undertaken by the college to supplement academic education with practical skills and livelihood-oriented learning. He emphasised the importance of equipping students with relevant skills and opportunities that can enhance their employability and support sustainable livelihood avenues.
The visit provided an opportunity to review the progress of Government Degree College Zanskar and encourage its efforts towards providing quality education and holistic development opportunities to students.
