    Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal inaugurates the VLTD fitment project in Ladakh

    Leh, July 22, 2025: In a significant step towards ensuring safer and smarter transportation in the Union Territory of Ladakh, Chief Secretary Dr. Pawan Kotwal today inaugurated the launch of the Vehicle Location Tracking Device (VLTD) fitment project at the Command-and-Control Centre, ARTO Leh.
    The event was held in the presence of the Administrative Secretary, Transport Department, Bhupesh Chaudhary, and other senior officials.
    The VLTD initiative aims to promote safe, transparent, and efficient mobility through real-time monitoring of vehicles. The system will also enable unified safety empowerment and protection by providing enhanced tracking capabilities for passenger and commercial vehicles across the region.
    Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary Dr. Kotwal emphasised the importance of widespread awareness among stakeholders regarding the VLTD system. He underlined the need for comprehensive training of vehicle drivers to ensure the smooth implementation and functioning of the tracking system. He further added that the initiative is a step towards the broader vision of smart governance and public safety in Ladakh.
    Administrative Secretary Shri Bhupesh Chaudhary highlighted and noted that the tracking system would play a key role in enhancing road safety, improving emergency response times, and regulating unauthorised vehicle movement.
    The system is expected to greatly improve the responsibility and performance of the transport service in the area.
