Leh, May 20, 2026: In a spiritually vibrant and culturally rich celebration, the 84th birthday of His Eminence Padma Shri Thiksey Rinpoche, Shartul Jetsun Ngawang Jamyang Chamba Stanzin, was observed with great devotion and reverence at Thiksey Monastery today.
Chief Secretary of the Union Territory of Ladakh, Sh. Ashish Kundra, attended the occasion as the Chief Guest and extended warm greetings on behalf of the Administration and the people of Ladakh.
The celebration began with the ceremonial lighting of the auspicious lamp, symbolising peace, wisdom, and prosperity. The monastery premises resonated with traditional melodies and vibrant cultural performances presented by the Nyungchung cultural group and the Kilubuk troupe, who showcased Ladakh’s rich artistic heritage through colourful traditional attire and folk performances.
Addressing the gathering, His Eminence Thiksey Rinpoche expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organisers, officials, devotees, and members of the public for their presence and continued respect towards the spiritual traditions of Ladakh. He emphasised the importance of compassion, harmony, and cultural preservation in strengthening the bond between society and the administration.
His Eminence also offered prayers for the peace, happiness, and well-being of the people of Ladakh and the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The occasion also witnessed the recognition of individuals who have rendered dedicated service in preserving spiritual and cultural values. Special appreciation was accorded to Kongo Tenzin Tagla for his lifelong service to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, along with noted Chinese translator Dr. Jamyang Rinchen for his valuable contributions.
The celebration concluded with traditional Ladakhi dances and prayers for universal peace, communal harmony, and the continued guidance of His Eminence Thiksey Rinpoche.
The event witnessed the presence of DGP Ladakh Sh. Mukesh Singh, representatives of monastic institutions, former Members of Parliament, former CEC; nambardars, villagers, devotees, and prominent members of society from across the region.
