Chief Secretary reviews and monitors progress of BRO projects in Ladakh.
Leh, August 19, 2026: Chief Secretary, UT of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra, today chaired a meeting to review and monitor the progress of various projects being executed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
During the meeting, Chief Engineer, Project Vijayak, BRO, made a detailed presentation on various projects, including project-wise funds and proposals for works under the Special Development Package (SDP).
Detailed discussions were held on the preparation of the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for construction of the Hanuthang–Turtuk Road and a tunnel across Hamboting La, widening of the Khaltse–Batalik Road, and the upgradation of the existing PMGSY road to provide connectivity to the Kargil–Dumgil Road.
The meeting also reviewed the fund requirements for works under CRIF packages. Discussions covered the sanctioned cost, funds allocated and additional funds required for the financial year 2026–27. The fund requirements for CRIF projects involving Land Acquisition (LA) and utility shifting were also deliberated upon, with detailed discussions on land acquisition, compensation structure, electricity shifting, utility shifting and the overall financial requirement.
Chief Engineer, Project Himank, BRO, subsequently presented an overview of ongoing and new projects being implemented under Project Himank. The presentation covered the preparation of DPRs for the Agham–Khalsar Road and Tangtse–Lukung Road under SDP, proposed projects for which AIP has been sought, helipad development and road safety works, besides key issues related to land acquisition cases.
The Chief Secretary reviewed the status of the projects and emphasised the need for close coordination among the concerned departments and agencies to ensure timely resolution of issues related to land acquisition, utility shifting, funding and other clearances. He stressed the importance of expediting the preparation of DPRs and execution of strategically and developmentally important road and infrastructure projects in the UT.
The meeting was attended by Administrative Secretary, PD&MD, Himanshu Gupta; Administrative Secretary, PWD, Baseer Ul Haq Chaudhary; Chief Engineer, PWD; Chief Engineer, PDD; Deputy Commissioner, Leh; Deputy Director, Planning; Joint Director, Planning; Chief Engineer, Project Himank; Chief Engineer, Project Vijayak, besides other concerned officers. The concerned Deputy Commissioners also participated in the meeting virtually.
