Drass, June 08, 2026: The Chief Secretary, Union Territory of Ladakh, Ashish Kundra paid a visit to Government Degree College Drass today and reviewed the academic and infrastructural developments undertaken by the institution. He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Drass, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS); Councillors Abdul Samad, and Abdul Wahid; Sub Divisional Magistrate, Visha Atri (JKAS), and other administrative officers.
Upon arrival, the Chief Secretary was warmly received by the Principal, faculty members, and staff of the college. During the visit, he inspected various facilities, including the newly constructed lecture halls, science laboratories, administrative block, library, girls’ common room, and gazetted quarters. The delegation subsequently visited the Academic Block, where the Chief Secretary formally unveiled the college’s annual magazine, “Himbabs.”
The Chief Secretary also planted a tree under #EKPEDMAAKENAAM in the High Altitude Biodiversity Conservation & Research Park. He appreciated the college administration initiating the concept conserving biodiversity and research about the indigenous plant of Drass district.
On the occasion, students who had demonstrated outstanding performance in the Annual Seminar Presentations were felicitated for their academic achievements. He also awarded the team of presenters who secured first position in the Zoological Survey of India Hackathon, held in Solan, HP. The programme also featured a formal welcome address and a detailed presentation by the Principal highlighting the college’s academic progress, achievements, and future plans. A short video showcasing the institution’s activities and initiatives was screened for the guests.
During the visit, representatives of the permanent faculty and faculty engaged under Academic Arrangement submitted memoranda to the Chief Secretary regarding matters concerning higher education and faculty welfare.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Secretary appreciated the efforts of the college administration, faculty, and students in promoting quality higher education in the region and encouraged the institution to continue its pursuit of academic excellence.
The programme concluded with a closing remarks delivered by Deputy Commissioner, Drass, Imteeaz Kacho (JKAS).
