    Civil Aviation Department

The Civil Aviation Department of Ladakh is committed to enhancing civil aviation services and infrastructure across the Union Territory. Our mission is to ensure reliable, safe, and accessible air connectivity for residents and visitors, particularly in the region’s remote and challenging terrain.

    Core Functions
Critical Air Transport Services: We coordinate essential air transport and courier services, including the vital AN-32 Kargil Courier Service connecting Kargil with Jammu and Srinagar. This service is crucial during harsh winters when roadways are closed due to snow.

    Helicopter Connectivity:

The department operates and subsidizes helicopter services for residents, tourists, and essential personnel. Easy booking, priority scheduling, and dedicated platforms ensure smooth access and
    convenience.

    Operational Management:

Liaison Officers (LOs) and Assistant Liaison Officers (ALOs) are trained and deployed to streamline operations, maximize passenger safety, and manage seasonal air services efficiently.

    Collaboration & Security:

We work closely with the Indian Air Force and local district administrations to enable the secure, seamless operation of civilian flights, including at military-run airports and during emergency
    situations.

    Helipad Development:

The department is focused on developing helipads, which are critical for emergency evacuations, airlifting patients, and disaster relief-especially in winter when ground routes are impassable.

    Connecting Remote Areas:

Ongoing construction of helipads in remote villages ensures year-round connectivity to district headquarters, enabling timely access to essential supplies and government services, and reducing
    isolation during winter.

    Boosting Tourism:
Increased helicopter connectivity also promotes tourism, making Ladakh’s remote scenic destinations accessible even in challenging weather conditions.
    Winter Logistics:
By maintaining key air logistics and supply routes during winter, we ensure the uninterrupted flow of essential goods when surface connectivity is cut off.

The Civil Aviation Department of Ladakh plays a pivotal role in sustaining lifelines for residents, facilitating economic growth, and promoting tourism, while upholding the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
