    Commissioner/Secretary, Tourism & Culture Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan conducts visit of various potential tourism sites in Kargil.

    KARGIL, NOVEMBER 12, 2023: The Commissioner/Secretary, Tourism & Culture, UT of Ladakh, Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan conducted a thorough visit of various potential tourism sites here on Saturday.
    The Commissioner/Secretary started his tour by first visiting Sangam Viewpoint at Kharoul on the National Highway 01 which is being developed under Swadesh Darshan 2.0 Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism, GoI. It was informed that the viewpoint would be developed and connecting walkway, viewing decks, promenade, parking, farm trail and other facilities would be kept available at the vital site.
    He also visited Subedar Harka Bahadur Memorial, Kargil located on Srinagar-Kargil Highway and discussed the importance and tourism potential of such sites on the highway.
    The Commissioner/Secretary visited Dudu Thang, Chanigund village to discuss upcoming mini-stadium project with the concerned officers and villagers. He directed the Revenue Department to ensure formal land allotment and directed the engineers of TDA, Kargil to prepare DPR and complete other formalities related to the project so that work on the project can start early in the next working season.
    During discussion on the project and land, the Commissioner/Secretary conveyed that the stadium would be built with a capacity to accommodate 4,000 – 5,000 people at one time. He emphasized that this project is being expedited as promised and directed by the Hon’ble LG, UT of Ladakh. When completed this project would contribute to the promotion of tourism & culture and foster growth in the local economy.
    The Commissioner/Secretary Khan also visited Hunderman village and discussed with the Army officers about the scope and possibilities for promotion of border/patriotic tourism in the area.
    The Commissioner/Secretary visited petroglyphs sites near Kharoul area and directed the officials of Antiquities and TDA to explore possibilities for the establishment of petroglyph parks in the area.
    Later, the Commissioner/Secretary visited Trespone to inspect the land identified for construction of museum and directed the concerned officers to expedite formal land allotment. It was informed that the museum will come under SDP.
    CEO, TDA Kargil, Abdul Gaffar Zargar; Tehsildar Kargil, Kacho Asgar Ali Khan; Executive Engineer, TDA Kargil, Tsering Morup; Under Secretary/OSD, Tourism and Culture Department, Muhammad Ali Tak; Registering Officer Antiquities Khadim Hussain; Naib Tehsildar TSG, Muhammad Hassan besides officials of TDA and Revenue Department Kargil accompanied the Commissioner/Secretary during the tour.
    Earlier, Councillor Bhimbat Abdul Wahid called on the Commissioner/Secretary and projected demand for establishment of ‘Martyrs’ Homage Path’ in Bhimbat area near the Drass War Memorial. Other required steps for promotion of tourism in the area were also discussed during the meeting.
    The Commissioner/Secretary asked the Councillor Bhimbat to furnish a formal proposal in this regard so that the project for establishment of ‘Martyrs’ Homage Path’ can be considered for inclusion in a relevant scheme in the next year’s plan.
